DescriptionAn Explanation of Imam al-Nawawi’s Kitabu al-Adkhar from Riyadh al-SaliheenShaykh al-UthaymeenThe remembrance of Allah is from the reasons for firmness and success. Success is a comprehensive word, which is intended to mean the attainment of one’s pursuit and salvation from that which one fears. Allah, the Exalted, said: “Recite, [O Muhammad], what has been revealed to you of the Book and establish prayer. Indeed, prayer prohibits immorality and wrong-doing, and the remembrance of Allah is greater.” (Al-Ankabut 29:45)It is said that the meaning is what it (the prayer) contains from the remembrance of Allah is greater. It is also said that the meaning is that the remembrance of Allah, in general, is greater. For when the person prays, it is a reason for the life of his heart and much remembrance of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic. Allah, the Exalted, has said: “Indeed, the Muslim men and Muslim women, the believing men and believing women, the obedient men and obedient women, the truthful men and truthful women, the patient men and patient women, the humble men and humble women, the charitable men and charitable women, the fasting men and fasting women, the men who guard their private parts and the women who do so, and the men who remember Allah often and the women who do so – for them Allah has prepared forgiveness and a great reward.” (Al-Ahzab 33:35)Allah likewise said: “Therefore, remember Me, I will remember you, and be grateful to Me and never be ungrateful.” (Al-Baqarah 2:152)The verses in this regard are many; all indicating the virtue of Dhikr and the encouragement towards it. Allah, the Exalted, commended those who remember Allah standing, sitting, and lying on their sides. He clarified that they are the people of sound intellect.
